Nucleus-nucleus reaction cross-sections calculated for realistic nuclear matter distributions within the Glauber-Sitenko approach

چکیده
Abstract.Basing on the thickness (profile) function, previously obtained for the realistic Fermi type distribution of nucleons in nuclei, calculations are made of the microscopic eikonal phases of the nucleus-nucleus scattering and the total reaction crosssections. In so doing, the phase is deduced to the one-dimensional integral provided that the Gaussian density distribution for the projectile nucleus and an arbitrary shape of the thickness density for the target nucleus are used. The problems of obtaining parameters of the ”point” nucleon density are considered. A possibility of approximating the realistic densities by the ”surface-matched” Gaussian functions and the dependence of cross-sections on the nucleon-nucleon interaction radius are discussed. The in-medium effects and the role of the trajectory distortion are studied. Conclusions are made on physics of the process, and comparison with experimental data is made with cross sections calculated by using the developed method where no free parameters are introduced.

Sensitivity of reaction cross sections to halo nucleus density distributions.
Measurements of reaction cross sections are routinely used to deduce effective nuclear root mean square ~rms! radii by comparison with theoretical model predictions. Cross sections calculated using the optical limit Glauber model depend strongly on the rms radius of the density assumed for the projectile nucleus. We investigate such calculations by assuming a range of projectile density distrib...
متن کاملProton-nucleus elastic scattering and the equation of state of nuclear matter
We calculate differential cross sections for proton-nucleus elastic scattering by using a Glauber theory in the optical limit approximation and nucleon distributions that can be obtained in the framework of macroscopic nuclear models in a way dependent on the equation of state of uniform nuclear matter near the saturation density. We find that the peak angle calculated for unstable neutron-rich...
متن کاملEffects of correlations on the total neutron-Nucleus cross section at high energies
The total neutron-Nucleus cross section has been calculated within an approach which takes into account nucleon-nucleon correlations, Glauber multiple scattering and inelastic shadowing corrections. Nuclear targets ranging from 4He to 208Pb and neutron incident momentum ranging from 3 to 300 GeV/c, have been considered. Correlations have been introduced by two different approaches leading to th...
متن کاملRadii of halo nuclei from cross section measurements.
The root mean square matter radii of halo nuclei provide a basic measure in constructing, constraining, and assessing theoretical models of halo structures. We consider corrections to static density ~optical limit! Glauber model calculations of reaction cross sections of such nuclei at high energy giving careful consideration to their intrinsic few-body structure and the adiabatic nature of the...
متن کاملHadron-nucleon total cross section fluctuations from hadron-nucleus total cross sections.
The extent to which information about fluctuations in hadron-nucleon total cross sections in the frozen approximation can be extracted from very high energy hadron-nucleus total cross section measurements for a range of heavy nuclei is discussed. The corrections to the predictions of Glauber theory due to these fluctuations are calculated for several models for the distribution functions, and d...
